License Requests

Written by Sven Gerlach

Overview

License Requests is where you track every license your team has asked Turris to file: the renewals you started for expiring or expired licenses, and the brand-new license applications you submitted for your agencies and agents. Two tabs, Renewals and New Licenses, tell you at a glance which filings are still pending, which are awaiting payment, which have been submitted to the state, and which need follow-up before a regulator will approve them.

What is the License Requests Page?

License Requests answers the question every licensing manager asks daily: "what did my team file, and where is each filing right now?" Once you start a renewal from Actions Required, or submit a new application through the New button, the request lands here so you can monitor it through to completion.

Who uses it. Licensing managers, compliance leads, and operations staff at agencies, claims organizations, and broker offices who are responsible for keeping every licensed agent and agency in good standing across the states they sell in.

What you can do on this page:

  • See every renewal group you started, including how many licenses are bundled into each one, whether payment has been recorded, and how the state response is progressing.

  • See every new license you requested for an agency or agent, broken down by state, license class, and lines of authority.

  • Resume a renewal you started but did not finish, picking up at the wizard step where you left off.

  • Cancel a renewal or a new license request while it is still cancellable, so a mistake does not turn into a filing fee.

  • Start a brand-new license request without leaving the page, using the New button at the top-right.

  • Read Processing Notes that the Turris team adds to a new-license request, so you know what (if anything) is blocking it.

Accessing the License Requests Page

  1. Open Left sidebar → License Management. The page opens on the Actions Required sub-tab by default.

  2. Click the License Requests sub-link directly under the page title. It sits between Actions Required and the Agencies sub-link.

  3. The page opens with the Renewals tab selected. Click the New Licenses tab to switch to the new-application view.

The New button sits in the top-right of every License Management tab, next to the page title. Use it from anywhere inside License Management to start a new license request without first navigating back to this page.

Note: The sub-link labels Agencies and Agents match the wording your organization uses. If your organization is configured as a Third-Party Administrator (TPA) and uses "Claims Org" terminology, "Agencies" reads as "Claims Orgs" everywhere on the page.

Renewals Tab

The Renewals tab lists every renewal group you started. A renewal group bundles multiple license renewals so they can be reviewed, paid for, and filed as one batch (by Turris or by your team, depending on the processing type).

What's visible on the page. A filter bar at the top, then a table of renewal groups sorted by creation date, newest first.

Column

Description

Entity

The agency or agent whose licenses are inside the renewal group.

Type

How the renewal is processed: Automated (Turris files it for you) or Manual (your team files it; Turris tracks the bundle).

Status

Where the renewal group is in its lifecycle. See the Status Reference section below.

Payment

Paid or Unpaid. Renewals are not filed with the state until payment lands.

Amount Paid

Total fee paid for the group, shown as a dollar amount. It appears only once the Payment column reads Paid; otherwise the cell shows a dash.

# Licenses

How many individual licenses are bundled inside this renewal group.

Created

The date the group was created, formatted like "Apr 14, 2026".

Actions

A trash-can icon to cancel the group. It appears only while the group is still cancellable.

Click any row to resume that renewal's wizard. If the wizard progressed past the first step, the page reopens at the same step (Fee Summary, Payment, Background Questions, State-Specific Questions, or Review and Submit), so you do not lose your place.

Filtering Renewals

Three badge filters sit above the table. They stack onto two rows so the layout stays readable.

Filter

Type

Purpose

Example use

Status

Badge toggle

Limit the table to one renewal group status.

Hunting down everything still in Awaiting Payment before the end of the week.

Type

Badge toggle

Show only Automated or only Manual groups.

Reviewing only what Turris is filing for you.

Payment

Badge toggle

Show only Paid or only Unpaid groups.

Confirming every paid group actually moved on to Submitted.

Click a badge once to apply that filter; click it again to clear it.

Cancelling a Renewal Request

When you'd do this. You started a renewal group by mistake, the wrong agent was selected, or a license inside the group has already been renewed elsewhere. Cancel it before payment is recorded so no fees are charged.

The trash-can icon appears only when the renewal group's Status is Processing, Awaiting Payment, Pending Review, or In Progress, AND its Payment column reads Unpaid. Once payment is recorded or filing begins, the icon disappears.

  1. Locate the renewal group on the Renewals tab. Filter by Status if it helps.

  2. Click the trash-can icon in the Actions column at the end of the row.

  3. A confirmation modal titled Cancel Renewal Request opens, reading: "This action cannot be undone. All licenses in this request will be cancelled. You can reapply for renewal later."

  4. Click Cancel Request to confirm, or Go Back to keep the group as-is.

Warning: Cancellation cannot be undone. Every license inside the group is cancelled together. If you only want to drop one license, contact support before cancelling the whole group.

New Licenses Tab

The New Licenses tab lists every individual license your team requested as a new application (not a renewal). Unlike the Renewals tab, each row here is a single license, not a bundle.

What's visible on the page. A status filter at the top, then a table of new-license requests sorted by request date, most recent first.

Column

Description

Category

Whether the license is requested for an Agency or an Agent.

Name

The agency's legal name, or the agent's full name (first, middle, and last).

Requested

The date the request was submitted, shown in UTC. The cell shows a dash if no date is on file.

State

The state the license is requested in, shown as a state-flag badge.

License Class

The license class name and code, for example "Producer License (PR)" or "Surplus Lines Broker (SL)".

LOA

The lines of authority on the request, each as its own badge. When more than three are requested, the first two display inline and the rest sit behind a +N badge; click it to see the rest in a popover.

Processing Notes

Notes added by the Turris processing team while working the request, shown as a bulleted list. The cell shows a dash if no notes have been added.

Status

Where the request is in its lifecycle: Pending, Submitting, Submitted, Completed, Cancelled, or Failed.

Actions

A three-dot menu with a Cancel Request option. The option is enabled only while the request is still Pending.

Rows for Failed and Cancelled requests render with a dimmed background so you can scroll past requests that no longer need action.

Filtering New Licenses

A single badge filter labelled License Request Status sits above the table. Use it to narrow the list to one status: Pending, Submitting, Submitted, Completed, Cancelled, or Failed. Click a badge to apply, click again to clear.

The list also respects the page-level search box at the top of the application. Searching matches the Name, License Class, and LOA columns.

Cancelling a New License Request

When you'd do this. You realize a request was submitted for the wrong agent, the wrong state, or the wrong license class. Cancel it before the request leaves Pending, because once Turris starts filing it with the state, the work (and any state fees) is in motion.

The Cancel Request option is enabled only while the request's Status is Pending.

  1. Locate the request on the New Licenses tab. Use the License Request Status filter to jump straight to pending requests.

  2. Click the three-dot icon at the end of the row to open the actions menu.

  3. Click Cancel Request.

  4. A confirmation modal titled Cancel Request opens, asking "Are you sure you want to cancel this request?" Click Apply to confirm or Cancel to keep the request.

If you try to cancel a request that has already moved past Pending, an alert reading "This request is not in pending state, you cannot cancel it." appears, and nothing changes.

Submitting a New License Request

When you'd do this. A new agent has joined your roster, an existing agent needs to write business in a state they are not yet licensed in, or you are expanding an agency's footprint. Use this flow to ask Turris (or your team, for manual workflows) to file the new-license application with the state.

The New button sits in the top-right of every License Management tab. Use it from this page, or from Actions Required, Agencies, or Agents, whichever you happen to be on.

  1. Click New in the top-right corner. A slide-over titled Request New License opens, with the subtitle "Fill out this form to request assistance with adding internal licenses".

  2. Fill in the form in order. Each section reveals only after the section above it has a valid value:

Field

Required

Description

Select Entity Category

Yes

Pick either Agency or Agent. A question-mark popover next to the label reads: "Select the agencies or agents with existing npn for whom you request a new license".

Select Entities

Yes

Multi-select dropdown of every agency (or agent) on your roster that has an NPN on file. Pick one or many. A Select All option is available. An entity that already has a conflicting open request (or active license) cannot be selected; an alert names the blocked entity and the reason.

Select States

Yes

Multi-select dropdown of US states. Pick one or many. A Select All option is available at the top of the dropdown.

License Class

Yes, per state

For each selected state, choose the license class you want, for example "Producer License" or "Surplus Lines Broker".

Lines of Authority (LOAs)

Yes, per state

For each selected state, choose one or more lines of authority for the chosen license class, for example "Life", "Health", "Property", or "Casualty".

  1. Click Submit. A success alert reads "License request(s) have been successfully submitted". The form resets and you are returned to the License Requests page so you can watch the new rows appear on the New Licenses tab.

Each entity / state / license-class combination becomes its own row on the New Licenses tab.

Tip: If you are filing the same license class and LOAs across many states, add all the states first, then configure the license-class and LOA picks on each state's card.

Note: If an entity you try to select already has an open request (or an active license) for the same state and license, the form blocks the selection and shows a message naming the blocked entity and the reason. Adjust your selection and try again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't I see any requests on this page? The page only lists requests started inside Turris. If your organization is new to Turris, or your team has not started any renewals or new license requests yet, the page is empty. Click New in the top-right to start your first request, or open the Actions Required tab to renew an expiring license.

Can I cancel a request after it has been submitted to the state? No. Once a new-license request moves out of Pending, or a renewal group moves past its cancellable statuses (or payment is recorded), the filing has begun and cancellation is no longer possible. Contact support if you believe a state filing needs to be withdrawn.

What is the difference between Automated and Manual renewals? Automated renewals are filed by Turris on your behalf, end to end, with no further action from you after the wizard is complete. Manual renewals require your team to complete the filing yourselves; Turris tracks the bundle, holds the payment record, and stores the data, but does not file with the state for you.

Why is a row dimmed on the New Licenses tab? Rows for Failed and Cancelled requests are dimmed so you can scan past requests that no longer need action.

Where do I see what the Turris team did with my request? Check the Processing Notes column on the New Licenses tab. Each note appears as a bullet in the cell, in the order Turris added them. If a request Failed, the reason is usually written there.

Why is there a "+N" badge in the LOA column? When a new license request includes more than three lines of authority, only the first two display inline so the row stays readable. Click the +N badge to see the rest in a popover.

Why won't a specific agent appear in the "Select Entities" dropdown? The dropdown only lists agencies and agents with an NPN on file. If an agent is missing, add their NPN on the agent's profile first, then return to this form.

Best Practices

  1. Watch payment status closely. A renewal group sitting in Awaiting Payment is not being filed. Filter the Renewals tab by Payment: Unpaid at least once a week to make sure no group is stalled.

  2. Use the License Request Status filter as your queue. On the New Licenses tab, filter by Pending and Submitting to focus only on requests still in motion; ignore Completed unless you are auditing.

  3. Cancel mistakes quickly. Cancellation is available only in Pending (for new licenses) or in the pre-payment statuses (for renewal groups). The earlier you cancel, the lower the chance a state filing fee is incurred.

  4. Double-check License Class and LOAs. A wrong line of authority usually means the license is not usable when it returns. If you spot the mistake before the request leaves Pending, cancel and re-submit.

  5. Check Processing Notes before contacting support. Most "why is my request stuck" questions are already answered in the Processing Notes column. Read those first; if the note is not actionable, then reach out.

  6. Group renewals when you can. A single renewal group with five licenses is easier to track (and pay for) than five separate renewal groups. Bundle by entity when you start the renewal flow from Actions Required.
