Overview
The Documents tab on a market's detail page is the single repository for every supporting document you exchange with one of your carriers, MGAs, or wholesalers — E&O, Cyber, and Crime & Fidelity policies, your W9, signed Producer Agreements, Payment Details, and any other contracts or files tied to the relationship. Turris auto-extracts the underlying details from policy, W9, Payment Details, and Producer Agreement uploads, so you can verify the data at a glance without opening the file.
What is the Documents Tab?
The Documents tab is where you upload, review, replace, correct, and remove every file that supports a single agency-to-market relationship. Each row is one document classified by category; supported categories carry structured metadata that Turris extracts automatically once the file lands.
Who uses it. Licensing managers, compliance leads, and agency owners use this tab to keep policy proof, W9 forms, and signed contracts current for a specific market — typically while onboarding with a new carrier, at policy renewal, or when a market requests proof of coverage.
Key capabilities:
Upload supporting documents in eight categories: E&O, Cyber, Crime & Fidelity, W9, Producer Agreement, Payment Details, Other Contract, and Other Document.
See auto-extracted metadata (policy number, carrier, coverage limits, full W9 detail, bank routing, signature dates) without opening the file.
Replace a renewed policy or amended W9 in place while keeping the row, its name, and any manual corrections you made.
Correct extracted policy or W9 details field-by-field when the auto-extraction is incomplete or wrong.
Open or download the original file in one click.
Filter the table down to one or many categories when working a renewal cycle.
Remove documents that are no longer relevant.
Accessing the Documents Tab
Open Left sidebar → Markets. The Active Markets view loads by default.
Click any row to open that market's detail page. The breadcrumb reads
Markets / <Market name> / <Your agency name>.Select the Documents tab — the last tab in the strip, marked with the file icon (after Profile, Agents, Entity Contacts, and Market Contacts).
What's visible on the page
The page opens with the Filters bar at the top of the panel and a single table listing every document attached to this market relationship.
Column | What it shows |
Name | The display name of the document. For policy, W9, Payment Details, and Producer Agreement uploads this is the original file name; for Other Contract and Other Document uploads it is the Document Name you entered at upload time. |
Category | A brand-blue badge identifying the document classification — E&O, Cyber, Crime & Fidelity, W9, Producer Agreement, Payment Details, Other Contract, or Other Document. |
(actions) | An unlabeled column at the end of each row holding the three-dot Actions menu. See Row Actions below. |
Tip: Click anywhere on a row to open the Document Details slide-over, which shows the metadata Turris extracted for that document.
If the market has no documents yet, the table is replaced with an empty-state card titled "No documents available" with the message "You can add a document by clicking on the 'New' button."
Uploading a Document
When you'd do this. A market has just sent their Producer Agreement for signature, a renewed E&O policy needs to go on file, or you are onboarding with a new carrier that wants proof of your coverage and a W9. Use New to add the supporting file to this market's record.
Click the New button on the right of the Filters bar at the top of the tab.
The New Document slide-over opens (subtitle: "Upload a new document"). Fill in the fields:
Field | Required | Description |
File | Yes | Drag and drop or browse to attach the document. JPEG, JPG, PNG, and PDF files are accepted, up to 25 MB per file. |
Document Category | Yes | Pick a category from the dropdown: Cyber, E&O, Crime & Fidelity, W9, Producer Agreement, Payment Details, Other Contract, or Other Document. Single-instance categories that already have an active document are removed from the list (see the Note below). |
Document Name | Conditional | Appears and becomes required only when Document Category is Other Contract or Other Document. Example: |
Click Upload Document.
Once the upload finishes, the file is queued for automatic metadata extraction if it belongs to a supported category (policy, W9, Payment Details, Producer Agreement). The extraction status appears as a badge in the Document Details slide-over and updates as the job progresses.
Note: E&O, Cyber, Crime & Fidelity, and W9 each allow only one active document at a time. The corresponding option disappears from the Document Category dropdown once an active document exists in that category — use Upload on the existing row to replace it instead. Producer Agreement, Payment Details, Other Contract, and Other Document support multiple active documents.
Tip: If the upload fails, an alert reading "Upload Failed — Error uploading document. Please try again." appears. Retry the upload, and contact support if the failure persists.
Row Actions
When you'd do this. Open the Actions menu (the three-dot icon at the end of a row) to work with an individual document — preview the file, download it, replace it with a renewed version, fix incorrect metadata, or remove it.
Action | When it applies |
View | Opens the document file in a new browser tab. Always available. |
Download | Opens the file's download link in a new browser tab. Always available. |
Upload | Replaces the underlying file with a new version while keeping the existing row, name, and metadata edits. Shown for every category except Producer Agreement, and only when your role can create documents on this market. |
Update | Opens a slide-over to manually edit extracted policy or W9 metadata. Shown only for E&O, Cyber, Crime & Fidelity, and W9 documents, and only when your role can edit this market's documents. |
Delete | Marks the document as deleted (shown in red). Shown for every category except Producer Agreement, and only when your role can delete this market's documents. |
For a Producer Agreement row, only View and Download appear — it cannot be replaced, edited, or deleted from this tab.
Warning: Upload replaces the file in place; the previous version is not retained as a separate row. Use Update instead when you only need to adjust extracted policy or W9 metadata and the underlying file is still correct.
Viewing Document Details
When you'd do this. You want to confirm what Turris extracted from a policy or W9 before you trust the data downstream — for example, before sharing a market's compliance data, before signing off on a renewal, or when a carrier asks for specific policy details.
Click anywhere on a row to open the Document Details slide-over (its subtitle is the document name). The fields shown depend on the document category. Every supported card displays a Data Extraction Status badge in its header.
E&O and Cyber policies
Field | What it shows |
Primary Insured | The named insured on the policy (shown as the card heading). |
Also insured | Any additional insureds listed on the policy. |
Policy Number | The carrier-assigned policy number. |
Carrier | The insurance carrier issuing the policy. |
Address | The mailing address tied to the policy. |
Policy Dates | The effective date and expiry date of the policy. |
Each Claim | The per-claim coverage limit, formatted in USD. |
Aggregate | The aggregate coverage limit, formatted in USD. |
Received Date | The date Turris received the policy. |
Crime & Fidelity policies
The same fields as E&O and Cyber, with an added Deductible field.
W9 documents
The W9 card shows the original file name as its heading and lays out every parsed IRS Form W9 field, grouped by the form's own sections:
Section | Fields |
Filer (lines 1-2) | Name (line 1), Business name (line 2) |
Tax classification (line 3) | Federal tax classification, LLC sub-letter (C / S / P), Other description, Has foreign partners, owners, or beneficiaries (line 3b) |
Exemptions (line 4) | Exempt payee code, FATCA reporting exemption |
Address (lines 5-6) | Address, City, state, ZIP |
Account numbers (line 7) | Account number(s) |
Taxpayer identification number (Part I) | SSN (partially masked for security), EIN / FEIN |
Certification (Part II) | Signature present (Yes / No) |
Any field the extractor did not capture shows an em-dash (—).
Payment Details documents
Field | What it shows |
Account Holder Name | The name on the bank account. |
Account Number | The bank account number, partially masked for security. |
Routing Number | The bank routing number. |
Financial Institution | The name of the bank holding the account. |
Institution Address | The mailing address of the financial institution. |
Producer Agreement documents
Field | What it shows |
Category | The producer agreement category. |
Status | The status of the agreement (shown only when recorded). |
Effective Date | The agreement's effective date (shown only when recorded). |
Downstream Entity Signed | Yes or No — whether your organization has signed the agreement. |
Upstream Entity Signed | Yes or No — whether the market has signed the agreement. |
Downstream Signature Date | The date your organization signed (shown only when recorded). |
Upstream Signature Date | The date the market signed (shown only when recorded). |
If the selected document has no metadata (typical for Other Contract and Other Document uploads), the slide-over shows the card "We could not find any metadata for this document — this document does not have any metadata associated with it."
Updating Document Metadata
When you'd do this. Auto-extraction returned the wrong policy number, missed the effective date, or didn't capture the FEIN. Use Update to correct the captured fields by hand so the metadata stays accurate downstream.
Open the Actions menu on the row and select Update.
The Update Policy: <document name> slide-over opens with the extracted values pre-filled.
Edit the captured fields:
For E&O, Cyber, and Crime & Fidelity: Primary Insured, Policy Number, Address Line 1, Address Line 2 (Optional), City, State, Zip Code, Other Insured (comma-separated), Insurance Carrier, Effective Date, Expiry Date, Aggregate Coverage, and Per Claim Coverage.
For W9: every parsed field, grouped into Filer, Tax classification (line 3), Exemptions (line 4), Address (lines 5-6), Account numbers (line 7), Taxpayer identification number (Part I) (SSN, FEIN), and Certification (Part II) (Signature present toggle).
Click Update Policy (for policies) or Update W9 (for W9 documents) to save the changes, or Cancel to dismiss.
Note: Update is available only for E&O, Cyber, Crime & Fidelity, and W9 documents. Producer Agreement, Payment Details, Other Contract, and Other Document do not support metadata edits from this tab.
Tip: A successful W9 edit shows a "W9 document updated successfully" confirmation. A failed save surfaces "Failed to update <category> policy details" or "Failed to update W9 document details" — re-open the row, retry, and contact support if the error persists.
Replacing a Document Version
When you'd do this. Your E&O policy was renewed, a W9 was reissued under a new EIN, or a market sent back a redlined Other Contract you need to keep on file. Use Upload on the existing row to swap the underlying file in place.
Open the Actions menu on the row and select Upload.
In the Upload Document: <document name> slide-over (subtitle "Upload the new document version"), drag and drop or browse to attach the new file.
Click Upload New Version.
The file is replaced in place. The row keeps its existing Name and any manually corrected metadata, and the new file is queued for metadata extraction if it belongs to a supported category.
Warning: Upload is not available for Producer Agreement documents. If a producer agreement needs to be replaced, contact your administrator or Turris support so the signed history stays intact.
Deleting a Document
When you'd do this. A policy expired, an Other Document was uploaded by mistake, or a contract is no longer relevant to this market relationship.
Open the Actions menu on the row and select Delete.
A confirmation modal titled Delete Document appears: "This will mark the document as deleted. Deleted documents will still be accessible in the system but will be clearly labeled as deleted."
Click Delete to confirm, or Cancel to dismiss.
Note: Deletes are soft — the underlying record is preserved for audit purposes and labeled as deleted in the system. Producer Agreement documents cannot be deleted from this tab.
Filtering and Searching
A single filter control sits in the Filters bar above the table. There is no separate search box on this tab.
Filter | Type | Purpose | Example use |
Select document types... | Multi-select dropdown with Select All | Narrow the table to one or many document categories at once. | Working through a renewal cycle? Pick E&O and Cyber to hide every other category while you confirm coverage. |
The dropdown offers seven categories — Crime & Fidelity, Cyber, E&O, Other Contracts, Other Documents, Producer Agreements, and W9. When no category is selected (or Select All is chosen), the table shows every document. The filter is local to the view — selections are not saved in the URL, so they reset when you leave the tab.
Tip: The question-mark icon next to Filters opens a popover reminding you that "You can filter documents by type (E&O, Cyber, W9, etc.). Multiple types can be selected all at once."
Visual Indicators
The Category badge sits on every row; the Data Extraction Status badge appears in each document's details slide-over and reflects the state of automatic metadata extraction.
Color | Label | Meaning | What to do about it |
Brand blue | Category badge (e.g. E&O, Cyber, W9) | Identifies the document classification on each row. | Use it to scan document types quickly; combine with the category filter when focusing on one type. |
Gray | not-started | Extraction hasn't begun for this document. | No action needed; the status moves on once the job starts. Refresh the slide-over if it stays here long after upload. |
Yellow | queued | The extraction job is waiting in line to run. | Wait — it advances to processing automatically. |
Yellow | processing | Turris is reading the file and extracting fields. | Wait for it to finish; the details card fills in when it reaches success. |
Green | success | Extraction completed and the metadata is populated. | Open the details card and verify the captured fields; correct anything wrong with Update. |
Red | error | Extraction failed for this document. | Open the Actions menu and click Update to enter the fields manually, or re-upload a clearer copy with Upload. |
Single-instance categories (E&O, Cyber, Crime & Fidelity, W9) disappear from the Document Category dropdown once an active document exists in that category, so you cannot accidentally create duplicates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the E&O (or Cyber, Crime & Fidelity, W9) option missing from the category dropdown when I try to upload? The market already has an active document in that category. Use Upload on the existing row to replace it with a new version, or delete the existing row first and re-upload.
What is the difference between Upload on a row and the New button? Upload replaces the underlying file on an existing row while keeping the same name and any metadata edits. New creates a new row, which is what you want for additional Producer Agreements, Payment Details, or Other documents that allow multiple active records.
Why is the Update action missing from the menu? Update is only available for E&O, Cyber, Crime & Fidelity, and W9 documents because those are the categories with editable metadata. Producer Agreement, Payment Details, Other Contract, and Other Document do not support metadata edits.
My policy data was extracted incorrectly. What should I do? Open the Actions menu and select Update, correct the fields by hand, then click Update Policy (or Update W9 for a W9). The corrected values display the next time anyone opens the document.
What file types and sizes are allowed? JPEG, JPG, PNG, and PDF files are accepted, up to a maximum of 25 MB per file.
Why is the account number partially hidden on the Payment Details and W9 views? Account numbers and SSNs are masked in the UI for security so they cannot be read off a shared screen. The full value remains stored securely in the platform.
Why can't I delete or replace the Producer Agreement on file? Producer Agreement documents are read-only from this tab to preserve the signed audit trail of the existing relationship. If a producer agreement genuinely needs to be replaced (re-signed under new terms, corrected after a clerical error, and so on), contact your administrator or Turris support — replacement is handled outside this tab so the signed history stays intact.
Best Practices
Upload policy documents the same day you receive them. Automatic extraction kicks off as soon as the file lands, so coverage details populate without manual entry and stay aligned with the dates the carrier issued.
Verify extracted metadata after every upload. Open the row, scan the details card, and confirm the policy number, dates, and coverage limits look right. If the Data Extraction Status badge shows error, use Update to fill in the fields by hand.
Replace renewals with Upload on the existing row, not Delete + New. This keeps the row, its name, and any metadata corrections tied to the same record so historical edits aren't lost.
Use descriptive names on Other Contract and Other Document uploads. Include the year or contract type (for example,
2026 Wholesale Brokerage Agreement) so the row is easy to identify in the table.Filter by category when working a renewal cycle. Pick the single category you're updating to keep the table focused; clear the filter once you're done.
